The Freshened Up Creek House: Your Blue Ridge Mountain Self-Isolating Retreat Cabin

Alright, if you read our recent newsletters – that’s right, we’re two for two, two newsletters in two months – then you know we’ve been working on the Creek House. It’s been on our Honey-Do List since our arrival in 2016 and we decided last year that we would finally tackle a few of the updates. I know, our timing is wonderful. So, we closed out our season after Thanksgiving, took December off to be with our families, then in January, Russ got to work on the Creek House.

What did we update?

Well, maybe I should call it a freshen up instead of an update. Due to the way our season is shaping up and the affect COVID-19 is having on our business, we decided to update in phases.

Cottage living area with large wood burning stove, southwest covered futon and cedar plank ceiling

Phase I is complete and we are excited to share it with you. Our freshen up this winter includes:

  • a cedar plank ceiling throughout,
  • fresh wall & trim paint,
  • converting the second bedroom to a queen-size bed,
  • new, handcrafted headboards, and
  • updated furniture and decorations throughout.

We’ve also installed ceiling fans in all the rooms and a new deck (added the end of last summer).

We added a small charcoal grill and hope to add a firepit in the coming months, making the Creek House the perfect self-isolating unit, for your coronavirus needs. The kitchen and bathroom remain untouched, but we hope to change that during Phase II.  (Our Phase II, not the government’s.)

The Creek House will continue to be the only unit on our property with a full kitchen and the only pet-friendly unit. (Pet policy: $25 per night, per pet. Limit 2.)

We know you guys are getting antsy to travel and we are getting antsy to fully open our doors, so here are some of our operation modifications with regard to the Creek House.  We will now offer the Creek House as a stand-alone vacation cabin rental.  Self-isolate in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Another change, breakfast is no longer included in the nightly rate.  Breakfast is now a la carte for the Creek House only.  You can add it to your reservation per person, per day; however you desire.  If you do add breakfast, you are welcome to join us in our dining room or we can provide it To-Go style.  Also, during this time, daily housekeeping will not be provided during your stay.  We’ll be happy to take care of your trash, though, simply place it outside your door and we’ll collect it while you’re out for the day.

Wooden table with Scrabble game, white bowl with grapes, green coffee mug, glass bowl with nuts, apple, and birding books

We have an assortment for low-tech entertainment in the House, cards, books, puzzles, board games, etc. and of course, the creek, your organic white noise machine. While you’re here feel free to wander up into our woods for a short .5 mile hike, or just sit and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with escaping to the mountains.

I know it’s not quite the same as what you’re used to from your Sugar Tree Inn visits, but we believe it is a good first step in the right direction for our guests, for our family and for our community.

If you’d prefer “contactless” check-in and check-out, please let us know and we’d be happy to accommodate your preference.
